Les
Waite
Growing up,
local artist Les Waite remembers art being an important part of
his life at a very early age. "My earliest childhood memories
include Paint-By-Number, Shrinky-Dinks and illustrating small
books made of torn folded paper and staples," he explained.
"I would also draw images from comic books, because the Silly
Putty transfers just weren't working for me."
He graduated
from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with
a B.A. Degree in Communications. He also has a Master's Degree
in Communications from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches
Texas.
His first
art show in 1996 was held at a friends house. He sold everything;
more than 20 pieces.
Les's work
was displayed at the 41st Annual Delta Exhibit in 1998, and the
Barrett Hamilton Exhibit at the Arkansas Art Center during his
Senior Year in High School. He was also voted "Best Arkansas
Artist 2004" by the readers of the Arkanasas Times.
Les's paintings
have been shown at Art Works with the Arkansas Reperatory Theatre
Gallery, and are now showing at Little Rock's River Market ArtSpace.
His work has
been commissioned and shipped across the United States and Internationally,
involving businesses ranging from advertising agencies and Fortune
500 companies.
He has painted
more than 600 pieces so far...
